Prof. P. Tamil Selvan began his career as a
Lecturer in the Government Polytechnic College, Aranthangi, Pudukkottai
district. He served in Alagappa polytechnic college, Karaikkudi for a long
period of time. Finally he appointed as Principal in Government Polytechnic
College, Gandharvakottai on 2017. He had precise expectations, but he also had the
patience to show faculties how to meet them. If a parent criticized a faculty,
he was quick to stand behind faculties. Peoples appreciated that loyalty, as well as
his organization: He made sure we had schedules completed months in advance,
which meant less stress on the counsellors. He prepared for challenges
proactively rather than responding reactively, which set the tone for the
entire college. I am grateful that I had the experience of working with such a
wonderful person as my principal.
He stands above the rest. Not only is he
consistently present in the hall and in our classrooms, but he meets with his
students and teachers on a regular basis, positively challenges us, and sends
out appreciative e-mails and messages to anyone who demonstrates sacrifice or
goes the extra mile for a student or staff member. He listens to our ideas and
implements those that will make a difference. He developed a good environmental structure for students
in studies, sports and other activities. In his initiative the college hostels
were ran in a good manner and college buildings were maintained properly. He initiates
the NSS and YRC in the college for the first time. He appointed programme
officers for YRC and NSS and carried out many activities.
In 2018, for the first time in the history of
Government polytechnic colleges he conducted ISTE-AICTE approved two weeks
Faculty development Programme. Totally 57 members from various polytechnic
colleges throughout Tamil Nadu were participated in that event. He initiates the training and placement
activities and motivates the students to get good jobs. The much number of students was placed in top
companies in Tamil Nadu. He appointed Anti ragging committee, monitoring committee
and ragging squad committee to aware and stop ragging in college premises. Through
YRC totally six Blood donation camps was conducted in his leadership. Three times
he donated his blood to encourage the students to donate blood.
